PAPUAN PYTHON Apodora papuana


A large python with a deep head. It is uniform olive-brown or greyish-brown above, pale yellowish-white below. The head is covered with fine speckles of dark grey and the inside of the mouth is black. It has heat pits in a few of the scales of the upper and lower lips.

Size To about 4 m.

Distribution New Guinea.

Habitat Tropical grassland.

Food Mammals and birds.

Bre e ding Egg-laying.

Note s This is a very powerful constrictor that can eat mammals as large as wallabies. It also has the ability to change colour from almost black to yellowish brown.
