A very slender python with a narrow head and smooth, iridescent scales. It is olive to brown and irregularly speckled with small groups of black scales. Its lower lips are white and it has heat pits. This picture is of the Savu Island subspecies, L. m. savuensis.
Size To about 2 m or slightly more.
Distribution New Guinea and some nearby islands.
Habitat Coastal forests.
Food Birds and small mammals; perhaps also other snakes and lizards.
Bre e ding Egg-laying, with clutches of up to 20 eggs.
Note s Similar to the Australian Water Python,
L. fuscus, which is thought to be the same species by some experts.
